Pakistan’s Misconception about India and the Truth

The Pakistanis have a big misconception about India. They feel India is just like Pakistan, and the Indian people are like them. For the last seven decades, they have been fed with lies, hatred, and negative propaganda about India by their media—newspapers, radio, and television. Pakistanis have opinions on everything happening around the world, though nobody even bothers about their opinion. Take Trump’s election victory or banning of burka and hijab in Switzerland or why India should play Champions Trophy in Pakistan. But shy away talking about the conditions in their country, price rises, shortages of food items, crime, and terrorist activity. The best part is most Pakistanis are not even aware of all this. Though no Islamic country reacts, Pakistan has to react to everything. They claim ISI and the Pakistani army are number one, but whatever happens there, they quickly blame it on India. They feel India is Pak-centric without realizing it; Indians don’t care about Pak; Indians react only when there's a terrorist attack.
The Pakistanis have a big misconception about India. They feel India is just like Pakistan, and the Indian people are like them. For the last seven decades, they have been fed with lies, hatred, and negative propaganda about India by their media—newspapers, radio, and television. But with the advent of social media, things are different. Firstly, India is very different from Pakistan, though at a glance it may seem so. Similarly, Indians may look like Pakistanis, but they are totally different in dress, thought, food, and outlook on things, whether they are Hindus, Muslims, Parsis, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Jews, or others. They all feel they are Indians and proud to be Indians, whether in India or abroad.
India is more modern with the latest architecture, technology, education, communication, and transport. Indians are educated, progressive, and have a modern outlook on life. For Indians, to whatever religion he may belong, nation comes first and religion is a private matter. This has been in the social fabric of the nation. People here are enterprising and hardworking to make life better for themselves and their families in India or abroad. And this is reflected in the growth of the nation.
‘Hum Muslim hai. Hum Islami mulk hai. Hum Islami mulk ke leader hai. Pura duniya hamare bathe sunte hai. Hum atmi thakat hai, duniya hamse darthe hai. Hum pura duniya me raj karege. Hum me jazba hai, hum India ko hara denge. Hum Delhi me janda leherayenge. Duniya hum se jalti hai, hamre tharaki se jalte hai.’ These are the hollow claims made by the illiterate, madrasa-educated, and even educated Pakistani men and women. Ignorance is bliss! This is often heard when the Pakistani Youtubers talk to the man or women in the street.
‘Kane ko roti nahi, education me piche, science aur technology ka koi patha nahi. Chale duniya jitne, responds a sensible foreign-returned Pakistani. He adds, this exposes the knowledge of the locals who are victims of fake news fed by Pakistani media. Some literate and sensible Pakistanis question the two-nation theory and ask what we got from it—nothing but illiterate people with extremist viewpoints, poor economy, lack of education, poverty, borrowing for our survival, and the world laughing at us with slogans of get out Pakis in most countries. Only the army and politicians’ benefit.
Nowhere in any Muslim country around the world have I heard the people say, we are Muslim, we are an Islamic country. In Pakistan, at every step, Pakistanis say, we are Muslims; Pakistan is an Islamic country. It has been created on the basis of Kalma. Religion is mixed with everything in everyday life; on talking about this habit with an educated Pakistani in the Gulf during one of my visits, he said, I think the reason is because we are not original Muslims; we have been converted from Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians, so to reassure, the locals have to repeat it to prove themselves as genuine Muslims. And feel they are the true Muslims and leaders of the Muslim world, but no one in the Muslim world even cares. They keep proclaiming imaginary things as they are not exposed to the outer world.
The Pakistanis, right from school and college, have been taught that India is their enemy. Indians are evil, dirty, and not worth being friends with as they are Khafirs. The Pakistani media continuously feed the people such propaganda. The main reason people fall prey to this is a lack of education, madrassa teaching, and exposure to foreign media. They believe in what their media gives them. The majority of the people are illiterate. Even some of those educated have similar views, and their women are worse as their literacy level is low. They are not even aware of basic facts; for them, their country is the best. The country was created on the basis of religion. Since their exposure to the world, modern development, science, and technology is limited, they have a narrow perspective of things and are steeped in double standards.
Though they hate India, while in foreign countries they coolly identify themselves as Indians to avoid suspicion and stern looks from locals and foreigners who look down upon them. Many of them are involved in petty and serious crimes like assault, robbery, financial scams, and molestation in foreign countries. Some even end up begging in Muslim countries, where they are picked and deported back. Pakistan’s credibility is at an all-time low. Nobody wants them. There are reports of a get-out Pakistanis campaign going on in many European countries. UAE has stopped issuing visas for Pakistanis.
When pointed out that their belief is that all non-Muslims are Khafirs and shouldn’t interact with them, then why do they take help and loans from China, America, or other non-Muslim countries and hate India? They have no answer, and their replies expose their lack of education. Similarly, when they consider non-Muslim Khafirs, why do they try to enter European countries and not Muslim countries? Again, they have no answer. They love to play the victim card as they feel they are targeted in other countries. Many European countries allowed Muslims to enter and settle in their countries as they were in need of cheap labor. There numbers increased as many entered as refugees. Soon these countries realized their folly. The emigrants demanded the imposing of Shariya law and Muslim way of life in dress, food, and praying in these countries.
And the Pakistanis funny claim that their country is Islamic but the European countries are secular, so they should allow Pakistanis to practice their religion, should be allowed to wear burka and hijab and have Shariya law there, forgetting that they are in a foreign country for better prospects and should follow the law of the land, and can be deported back. This has started to happen in some countries.
If in any country, if any law is passed keeping the country’s interest in mind, like a ban on hijab or burkha, no Muslim country has any issue, but Pakistani media jumps in trying to make an issue of it. Pakistan criticizes the West but still wishes to go there; it stinks of double standards. Once there, create trouble, protest, or try to impose Islamic thought, dress, and Shariya law. No wonder they are being driven out of many countries and told to follow the country’s law and customs or simply get out.
Recently, you have seen action being taken with Get Out Pakistanis, getting louder in the UK, Germany, France, Greece, and other European countries, including Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, and even Japan. Nobody wants them. They are considered troublemakers and fanatics. Recently, a Pakistani girl claimed to be Donald Trump’s daughter. Either she’s mentally ill or very smart doing it to get famous or make her video viral to earn some dollars.
Pakistanis are fed with lies. They believe the Pakistanis have won all the wars with India, which according to them, India started and attacked them as cowards in the night in 1948, 1965, 1971, and the Kargil war. On learning the truth, Pakistan lost all the wars, and in the 1971 war, 93,000 Pak army surrendered to the Indian army, and Bangladesh was created; and in the Kargil war, the Pak army refused to take the dead bodies of their soldiers and ran away. They refuse to believe, saying it’s all lies from Indian media. They proclaim they are brave and destined to rule India and the world. They believe that Pakistan is a country gifted with everything. And India and the world are jealous. Though they are existing on aid and loans from China and the IMF, they believe Pakistan is a wealthy country. Such is their mindset.
They are told Pakistan is a great country and the leader of the Muslim world, though nobody cares for them. They are told Pakistan is a rich country with a lot of wealth. The young and educated Pakistanis are confused; then why is Pakistan begging for aid and loans from around the world, especially from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, China, and others? Most of these countries have refused to lend them money. Even the IMF has cautioned them. Prices are rising in every sphere with shortages of essential items. And the man on the street and even the educated class talk of Gazwa-i-Hind without realizing 93,000 soldiers of the Pakistan army surrendered to the Indian army.
Pakistanis who visited India say India is over 50 years ahead of Pakistan. Sajid Tarar, an American-based Pakistani political analyst who recently visited India, said, I thought India was 50 years ahead of Pakistan. But the fact is they are 100 years ahead of Pakistan in almost all fields. Their cities are modern and clean with the latest communication and transport systems, and in some areas, even better than the US. Pakistanis are shocked and refuse to believe it and can't digest India’s development, power, and influence in the world.
The social media in Pakistan, especially the YouTube channels, have exposed Pakistanis fully; lack of general knowledge, lack of education, lack of technology, and lack of etiquette are clearly visible. Though they see videos of the development and the cities in India, they find it hard to believe that India has gone far ahead and reached the Moon and Mars. And India manufactures items ranging from food products, agricultural machines, automobiles to fighter aircraft, submarines, aircraft- carriers, defense equipment, and a wide variety of arms and ammunition, which India exports to foreign countries. Looking at people giving their views on social media, it looks Pakistan won't change in another seventy years. Lack of education, modern outlook, exposure to the world, poor leadership, mixing religion in everything, extremist thinking, and double- standards are some of the main causes of Pakistan’s downfall. It will take decades for Pakistan to change its mindset under an effective progressive leader.

Urban makeover
People of my generation will identify with this. Many traditional middle-class homes underwent an urban makeover in the mid-2000s, which meant giving away some old things bought with love from meager savings after a great deal of searching and bargaining, and some items even brought from your native place to remind you and keep in touch with your roots. Suddenly a time comes when this looks outlandish and old-fashioned. And one has to change with the times.
Over time, thinking and things have drastically changed. In the kitchen, the steel dabbas made way for airtight, attractive glass jars and Tupperware bowls, and steel plates were restricted to family meals only. The heavy utility Godrej steel cupboards bought earlier with pride were junked for being bulky. In its place came the designer, delicate modern-style plywood wardrobes and cupboards. In place of teak wood furniture, you have plush and bulky sofas. The old sturdy ceiling fans gave way to sleek, light, colored fans. The same goes for the light fittings and chandeliers in the hall, which were replaced by fancy designer fittings with limited life. The old refrigerator was replaced with a fridge with additional features. The window air conditioner was replaced by a split air conditioner with two units, one outdoor and one indoor.
Even the otherwise dhoti-wearing grandfather had a makeover; he slipped onto shorts, Bermuda and a T-shirt with fancy lines and pictures and slippers at home. Dads moved around with jeans and t-shirts. Moms too shifted from salwar to trousers and palazzos with designer tops. Old sturdy cars were replaced with sleek, modern brands with multiple features.
But despite these changes, the mind stayed put, reminding one of the old traditions where stress was on tradition, comfort, and utility. But now overtaken by trend and style, look and modernity, one has to do with some discomfort. Earlier on coming back, one got a natural feel of comfort and coziness at home, but now feels more like a hotel room. Times have changed, and if you don’t change with time, you are accused of being stagnant and not progressive!
