Assembly polls 2023: What will be the result?

Assembly elections 2023: Date of counting - The counting in all states is scheduled to take place on December 3. The entire process of polling will end on December 5. This will give a clear indication of the mood of the voters and what’s in store at the Lok Shaba elections in 2024.....

The election atmosphere is getting hot. With the Lok Sabha elections 2024 just months away, Assembly polls are scheduled to take place in the five states - Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram. The results of these high-stake elections could have major impact and implications for the 2024 general elections. The government is already on election mode and is feeling the pressure due to allegations of misrule, corruption and anti-incumbency in some states.

The elections will take place in a total of 679 Assembly constituencies, representing one-sixth of all the constituencies in India. There are 82 million male and 78 million female voters in all five states.  Political experts say gimmicks by the governments are not working. The people are now aware of the talk for vote policy and false promises of the politicians. Assembly elections 2023: The dates have been announced. The government and opposition are fully on election mode and are trying their best to entice voters. Most of the mainstream media facing the wrath from public and opposition alliance are trying project the positive side and achievements of the governments. But the channels on the social media by media professionals are attracting higher viewership as the public are looking for the truth after being fed by half-truths by most main-stream media.

Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to take place in one phase on November 17. Elections will be held in Chattisgarh in two phases on November 7 and 17. In Rajasthan, Assembly polls will be held on November 25 (changed from November 23). Polling will be held in a single phase on November 30 in Telangana. Elections for the Mizoram Legislative Assembly are set to take place on November 3 in a single phase. The voting and results will seal the fate of the government. Their actions indicate nervousness as opinion polls have shown negative figures. The opposition is confident of winning all the states after the formation of the India alliance. This has put more pressure on the central government. The leaders of the incumbent are not drawing crowds and have been booed at many places as per reports coming in. The crowds were missing at the numerous government rallies, the cadre and party workers are unhappy and open protests are seen at many places. The government will have to appease them.

The Prime Minister has withdrawn from the election rallies seeing the lack of enthusiasm among his party members and, sparse crowd attendance at meetings. He wants to re-energize and campaign later for the General elections. He has left it to the Home Minister to do the campaigning, but he too seems to have realized things are not going well for their party. It’s the party President Nadda’s face on promos. If the party does well, automatically PM will take credit and if it fails, party President will have to take the blame. He seems to be caught between these two big leaders and is unable to do anything independently.

Assembly elections 2023: Date of counting - The counting in all states is scheduled to take place on December 3. The entire process of polling will end on December 5. This will give a clear indication of the mood of the voters and what’s in store at the Lok Shaba elections in 2024.

Number of Assembly seats in the five states

Madhya Pradesh

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was supposed to be guiding the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state. But his position itself is shaky and centre has lost confidence in him and some of his supporters. The saffron party is facing a strong challenge from the opposition Congress. The Congress was ousted from power in Madhya Pradesh in 2020 after some of its legislators defected to the BJP. This time it’s the other way round. The state legislative Assembly has 230 seats.

Telangana

Since the state's formation in June 2014, K Chandrashekhar-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has ruled the state of Telangana. The state has a total of 119 assembly seats. Whereas BRS is the ruling party in the state, Congress and BJP are vying to make a mark in the upcoming state polls. It will be difficult for BJP to make a mark in this southern state. Congress could be an alternative but crowds at rallies must translate into votes.

Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Assembly has 200 seats. The Congress and the BJP have dominated the elections in the state. Both parties have alternatively ruled the state with Congress winning the last elections in 2018. This time it’s neck to neck, but many political analysts feel Congress is doing better than BJP as per reports and opinion polls. With few top leaders being sidelined by BJP could make it easy for Congress.

Mizoram

The Mizo National Front (MNF) is currently the ruling party in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly with 28 seats. The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has emerged as a major threat to the MNF's grip over the northeastern state. After Manipur carnage, it’s difficult for the BJP to make inroads, say experts. The Congress is trying hard to regain its lost glory in the state. Will they be able to gain their lost ground? Political observers are keeping their fingers crossed!

Chattisgarh

Currently, the state is ruled by the Congress, with Chief Minister Bhupesh Singh Baghel at the helm. The state is witnessing a direct contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. Chhattisgarh has 90 Assembly constituencies. Here too BJP will have a tough time and political analysts feel it's loaded in favour of Congress. But one cannot be sure till the results are announced.

The outcome and results of these five states will give an indication which way the general elections of 2024 will be heading; will the BJP hold on and form the government in 2024 or India is likely to see a change with the opposition alliance India, heading the government. Lets wait and watch.

Do you know of a Sari costlier than a Ferrari?

This happened some years ago. A beautiful combination of Indian art and tradition woven into a sari. Intricate design and creative handwork at its best made by skillful workers. How often have you come across a Rs 40 lakh ($100,000) silk saree? Chennai Silks, a textile unit had come up with one of a kind and it was seeking an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for being an unique and most expensive saree.

The exceptionally stunning saree was meticulously woven with 12 precious stones and metals to depicting 11 of Raja Ravi Verma's popular paintings. Explicitly projected is 'Lady Musicians', one of the painter's very famous works that displays women belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds.

Besides, the border of the saree portrays 10 other paintings of the artist that pay tribute to 20th century artist.

The best part of the saree was that the women in the paintings are intricately hand-woven and beautified with gold, diamonds, platinum, silver, rubies, emeralds, yellow sapphires, sapphires, cat's eyes, topaz, pearls and corals.

Already in the Limca Book of Records, this Rupees 40 lakh saree was the first silk saree that required the use of 7,440 jacquard hooks and 66,794 cards during the weaving process. Moreover, a group of workers took nearly 4,680 hours to make it. A wonderful piece of art on cloth exhibiting the skill of Indian craftsmen.

Why does ISRO launch rockets from Sriharikota?

Why does ISRO launch rockets from Sriharikota?

Sriharikota is partly located in Sullurpeta mandal and partly located in Tada mandal in Tirupati District in Andhra Pradesh. The island separates Pulicat Lake from the Bay of Bengal. The nearest town and railway station is Sullurpeta, which is 16 km west of Sriharikota, and the nearest city is Tirupati. A 16 km elevated road connects Sriharikota to the mainland.

Have you ever wondered why ISRO launches rockets and major space missions from Sriharikota? You may wonder a rocket can be launched from an open area in any place, what does it matter? There are technical and scientific reasons behind doing this. A great deal of scientific study has gone behind this decision to decide the safe and best location for construction of the launchpad, from where the Indian rockets will be launched into space from time to time.

Sriharikota is a barrier island off the Bay of Bengal coast located in the Shar Project Settlement of Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It houses the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, one of the two satellite launch centers in India, the other being Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launches satellites using multistage rockets such as the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle from Sriharikota. Sriharikota is selected by ISRO because of its proximity to the equator, which gives extra centripetal force from the rotation of Earth. There are a few other reasons too.

First, safety and security: Sriharikota is not densely populated, so in case of any accident or misfire of the rocket, there will be minimum loss to life and property. Since it’s not densely populated, proper security can be maintained and no unauthorized people can come close to the secured area. It's far from the hustle and bustle of the urban areas, which offers a quiet setup.

Second is its proximity to the equator; this closeness of Sriharikota makes it an attractive option, as this closeness to the equator provides extra centrifugal force from the rotation of the earth, thereby allowing it to navigate with minimal fuel. And launchpads are mostly on the East Coast. Rotational speed is highest at the equator which helps the rocket during launch and flight thereby saving in cost.

Thirdly since its located on the coastal area; on launching the rocket if due any technical glitch or human error, the rocket exploding in the sky, the debris will fall into the sea without any damage to life and property.

The climate of Sriharikota is tropical, wet, and dry. Sriharikota has hot summers and mild winters. Summers can reach up to 38 degrees Celsius, while winters can reach down to 20 degrees Celsius. Since Sriharikota is only 105 kilometers north of Chennai, its climate is similar to that of Chennai.
