Marriages are made in Heaven & Sawantwadi!

Croma     MediBuddy     MensXP

Sawantwadi is just a few km from Goa and is the most unlikely destination to get married. But getting married in this quiet town is a simple and convenient ritual. And it is perfectly legal for young and not-so-young couples to marry the person they love and wish to spend rest of their lives. The ceremony is solemnized speedily. The small town has become a favourite paradise for couples who wish to get married peacefully and live happily thereafter. Sawantwadi happens to be the former capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Sawantwadi. The town was the seat of the royal family of Sawant Bhonsales and still retains some of the erstwhile stately grandeur. It is at the foot of the hill called Narendra dongar. Sawantwadi has been declared a heritage town and attracts good number of tourists throughout the year.

New Domains

Every year, when I travel towards Sawantwadi and further on towards Goa, with a couple of days halt in Sawantwadi at a relative’s house; during my routine walks towards the market area, I noticed many Mangal Karyalays and would often wonder why a small place like this is dotted with Mangal Karyalays. On delving deeper, I learnt that apart from handicrafts, traditional Konkan food and fish, Sawantwadi is also known for arranging and performing quick marriages legally, without much interference or hassle. Recently a Sunday edition of a prominent newspaper revealed this other social and colourful side of Sawantwadi. If you wish to get married without any hassle, and that too legally; visit any Mangal Karyalay in Sawantwadi and they will do the needful.

One can tie the knot quickly without any fuss. The marriages are conducted under the Hindu Marriage Act, in an Arya Samaj-type ceremony, taking care of the essential rituals and give you the certificate the next day. This picturesque town on Maharastra’s coast in Konkan is a haven for matrimonial alliances. Get married and walk out as man and wife.

Though everything else happens slow, just has any small sleepy town on the west coast of India, but marriages are possibly one thing that happens quickly. And bring couples together in matrimony.

Moti Talav
Several Goan couples hop over to Sawantwadi to avoid red tape and just tie the knot here in peace, to legally go around Goa’s Civil Code, which applies to all Goans irrespective of religion and covers birth and death, property and marriage. Interfaith marriages are complicated under the code, and they involve joint ownership of property, inheritance and assets; quick marriages are difficult, especially if one has to do it urgently for going abroad, visa, job, etc. So the answer is to hop over to Sawantwadi to avoid all these formalities, convert if need be and get married in peace. The Mangal Karyalay does it for you at a reasonable cost.

Most of the Mangal Karyalays in the town operate from a front yard, backyard or a porch. Colourful and faded plastic chairs on a makeshift platform, is the stage for the bridal couple. The faded decoration and festoons permanently hanging make the decorations for the quick marriage. Though they don’t conduct fairy tale or dream weddings; for harried young couples facing family or other barriers, it is a paradise. The Mangal Karyalay’s proprietor or priest solemnize the Saptapati (7 Pheras in Hindu tradition) on the premises and get the holy union registered from Gram Sevaks (with power to register) in nearby villages.

Sawantwadi Railway Sation
These Mangal Karyalays draw couples from Goa, Karnataka, Maharastra and even Rajasthan, UP and other places. The Karyalays operate in a traditional way, they have no modern promotional methods, no websites nor do they advertise, it is just through word of mouth. The local people are friendly, no one asks questions here and the best part is the whole town opens to lovers and couples in need. Most Karyalays are scattered in the street and bylanes on one side of the lake with prominent signboards. Sawantwadi is a small town which can be covered on foot and people help you with directions.

Rajwada - Palace
I am told, at least one marriage happens every day in Sawantwadi, it could be inter-caste or inter-religion too. Sometimes even mixed-race marriages are performed here. The express service comes at a price – Rs 5,000 to Rs10,000 depending upon your urgency and bargaining power. The best part, it’s a single-window route to marriage with paperwork ready the next day. It is said – marriages are made in heaven, but it is also made in Sawantwadi!

At first look, Sawantwadi seems like the unlikely town to offer solace to couples. There are no big or luxury hotels or cafes. It appears to be a conservative place. Yet you find some couples getting cosy on the lake wall or a temple nearby, sharing private moments. Getting married is easy and the Mangal Karyalays do everything for you, the rituals and the paperwork. And the couples lives happily thereafter!

Spy Net Malware Steals Info

With the development of IT technology and software, the desktop, laptop, tablets and smart phones are not safe anymore; they are vulnerable to malwares and their newer versions. Malwares are used to steal information and data from your computers and devices of individuals, companies and government departments. And it does without anyone knowing it.

While malware is a generic term for malicious software, the fact is all malware slows your computer down and brings potential security risks along with it. What does malware look like? In most cases an unusual window will open up, something you do not recognize. Malware can be anything from viruses, Trojans and spyware to PC Optimization programmes that really do your computer more harm than good.

In recent years a highly sophisticated cyber-spying tool has been used since 2008 to steal information from government departments, business and others, researchers at security firm Symantec have found. While the infections first occurred between 2008 and 2011, the most recent version surfaced in 2013. And the damage was done.

Researchers suspect many components of Regin are still probably undiscovered and that there could be newer versions that have yet not been detected. Even when its presence is detected, it is very difficult to ascertain what it is doing. What does the malware do? It takes control of the mouse’s point-and-click functions. Allows attackers to capture screen shots, steals password, monitors traffic, recover deleted files and data. It tricks targets into visiting spoofed versions of well-known websites.

Known as Regin, the malware was seen in systematic spying campaigns against a range of international targets, including government infrastructure operations, businesses, and researchers, professional and private individuals. It is a ‘multi-staged threat’, with each stage hidden and encrypted. The malware shares some characteristics with the Stuxnet worm – a tool believed to have been used by the US and Israeli governments to attack computer networks involved in Iran’s nuclear programme.

The malware has targeted computers in countries around the world. India is one of the few countries where the infection was discovered. The highest infections were discovered in Russia (28%), and this was followed by Saudi Arabia (24%). And other countries where the malware was found included Mexico, Ireland, India, Afghanistan, Iran, Belgium, Austria and Pakistan. There were no reported infections in USA.

Because of its complexity, the Symantec researchers said the malware ‘would have a significant investment of time and resources, indicating that a nation is responsible. Further, it may have taken months, if not years, to develop the malware. And it does its job quietly of stealing information and data, harming the individuals, professionals, organizations and government departments around the world.

Bombay to Mumbai

Bombay was originally made up of seven islands which were home to the Koli fisherfolk who are still settled on the shoreline and into fishing. The islands were ruled by a succession of Hindu dynasties, later invaded by Muslims in the 14th century then ceded to Portugal by the Sultan of Gujarat in 1534. The Portuguese gifted it as dowry to the British when Catherine of Braganza married England’s Charles II in 1661. The British government took possession of all the seven islands in 1665 but after 3 years leased them to the East India Company for a meager annual rent of 10 Sterling pounds. Bombay soon developed as a trading port due to its fine harbour. Within 20 years, the presidency of the East India Company was transferred to Bombay from Surat, and the town soon became the trading headquarters for the entire west coast of India.

Mumbai is the capital of Maharastra state in India.
It is also considered to be the commercial capital of the country.
It’s a cosmopolitan city with people from all over India and all over the world.
Marathi, Hindi, English and many other languages are spoken and understood here.
Mumbai is the city of dreams and opportunities. There are numerous stories of rags to riches.
Mumbai is home to Bollywood which produces the most films in a year.
During the 26/11, the city was targeted and attacked by Pakistani terrorists.
It is said – If Mumbai sneezes, India gets the cold.

A make-up trick that all girls must know!

When you apply makeup, you usually apply powder last. Reversing your makeup routine is what is being suggested. However for a more long lasting finish especially if the climate is humid, you should apply in first. Moisturise your skin, apply powder, then setting spray and later a primer – now your base is ready for makeup. In this case, you don’t even need bake the makeup.
