Recently, after her nude pictures were splashed on the glamour glossies and lifestyle magazines and internet world-wide, Kim seems to be everywhere. She was also very much in the news in the Indian media too; to be a wildcard entry in the latest edition of the on-going Big Boss reality show, which has a low TRP at present. And suddenly with the news of Kim making a grand entry, the viewer-ship picked up. The whole thing appears to be a PR exercise, though the gimmick did work initially. And through newspaper reports, we are told, it was cancelled due to visa issues. But the truth is, she must have demanded an exorbitant amount to make a brief appearance in the reality show wearing a sari. Wow, she would have looked stunning in a sari!

Who is Kim Kardashian? Kim is a celebrity, famous not for her face but her attractive butt! She came into the limelight with a leaked sex-tape in 2007. And before that, she was friends with another celebrity and hotel heiress Paris Hilton. And to do that, she had to be rich. And for that, her dad Robert had to defend OJ Simpson at his murder trial. And sure, he must have made heaps of money!

The Kardashian family is well-known. Kim’s mom is called Kris. Kim has siblings called Khloe, Kourtney, Kylie and Kendell, who too come in the news on and off. And after a few flings, Kim finally married Kanye West, a rapper. She has a daughter from him called North West. Hope this marriage lasts?

She is always in the news for her antics or statements, and loves to be in the limelight.

Here are some interesting facts about Kim’s life. That the sex-tape lasted for 39 minutes and her first marriage lasted 72 hours. Her reality show has 130 episodes and she makes $28 million per year to take care of her needs and lifestyle.

In the recent pictures seen all over the world, her ample famous butt balanced a champagne glass. She has also pioneered belfies (butt selfies). And her eyelashes are human hair extensions along with the make-up on her pretty face. Kim Kardashian is a rich and famous celebrity known not for her face but her much photographed ample posterior.

The man who shot Bin Laden?

The American SEALs are known to operate and execute missions in different parts of the world in complete secrecy. They are sworn to secrecy of action plans before and after the top secret missions. This is the first time an ex-Navy SEAL has revealed his identity and spoke about the top secret mission and details about the terrorist’s hideout in Pakistan, and the death of the most wanted man, Bin Laden.

For the first time a decorated ex-Navy SEAL, Robert O’Neill, has been unmasked as the man who shot Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden in the head, during the top secret 2011 raid on the terrorist’s hideout in Pakistan. This has come as a shock to the SEALs and the others who took part in this special mission.

O’Neill who grew up in Montana, was one of the 23 SEALs who flew into the Pakistani garrison town of Abbottabad on the night of 2 May 2011. Identified as ‘The Shooter’ in an Esquire interview, he told Esquire that he joined the army when he was 19, as a reaction to his then-girlfriend leaving him. And this kept him going throughout his tenure in the services.

O’Neill has served more than a dozen tours on duty in active combat, including Iraq and Afghanistan. He has undertaken 400 separate combat missions. O’Neill was identified by the military news website SOFREP. The 38-year-old is expected to talk about himself during a 2-part Fox News TV Special this month. His identity was confirmed by his father, during an exclusive interview to Daily Mail. This has shocked many in the establishment, and has put himself and his family in grave danger.

The Navy hero has reportedly decided to speak out as he lost some of his military benefits by quitting the SEAL’s after 16 years, instead of staying for a full 20 years. In an interview to Daily Mail, the former Navy SEAL’s father Tom O’Neill said: People are asking if we are worried the ISIS will come and get us because Rob is going public. I say I’ll paint a big target on my front door and say come and get us.

There is more to it – ‘I thought I would give him a third shot for good luck,’ heroic Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill told rapt 9/11 family members of the bullets he boasts of firing into Osama bin Laden’s skull. He had been taught to fire two head shots – the so-called double-tap. Still, there was ‘no harm in putting one more bullet in him,’ O’Neill explained during a top-secret gathering at 9/11 Museum in lower Manhattan in July, people who heard O’Neill speak told The Post.

The SEAL team had been given few advance details of the May 2011 operation, dubbed Neptune Spear, the former commando told his audience. ‘We didn’t know what the mission was – then we realized we’re going after The Target,’ he said, referring to the Al Qaeda leader. O’Neill said he had time for a phone call and rang up his children, thinking he might never see them again.

Once at bin Laden’s hideout in Abottabad, Pakistan, he climbed a stairway to a bedroom, and recalled the sound of his weapon firing – Pop! Pop! Pop!’. ‘I thought I’d give him a third shot for good luck…. Or good measure,’ one listener remembered, at which point, ‘There were murmurs of laughter.’
The gravity of what he had done set in only later, as he ate while guarding the body. ‘I am standing there eating a sandwich,’ he said, ‘and realized I just killed that SOB.’

The SEAL has faced heat from mission-mates who insist O’Neill was only one of the three members whose rounds struck bin Laden. Brass have also complained that O’Neill breached the SEAL ethos, or code of silence. ‘He should have done his job and gone home,’ a retired Navy SEAL commander told The Post, noting that O’Neill has put himself and his family in grave danger.

The 9/11 victims’ relatives had no idea they were about to hear a firsthand story of bin Laden’s death when they accepted an e-mailed invitation to attend ‘a private and confidential’ event. The invitation from Rep Carolyn Maloney said only that a mystery speaker – ‘a combat veteran who has played a pivotal role in international security that has affected all of your lives’ – would be on hand.

At the event – which was filmed – O’Neill spoke in the monotone of a professional soldier, but his descriptions of the raid were met with tears and some laughter. ‘It was a monologue,’ one guest told The Post. ‘He spoke very quickly, boom, boom, boom….There was no emotion.’ ‘He was nonchalant about it,’ another recalled. Afterward, O’Neill showed a more tender side as he greeted family members, asking one, ‘Can I have a hug.’

In USA and amongst the SEALs, they believe, since sworn to secrecy, O’Neill’s outburst is disturbing and could even put his colleagues in the secret mission in danger. They all feel O’Neill should have stuck to the anonymity and should not have taken credit for the success of the mission as there were others too who were with him and risked their lives for the country.

O’Neill’s exploits have inspired filmmakers and has been portrayed on the big screen in action films, Zero Dark Thirty, Captain Phillips & Lone Survivor. However, the question being asked – is he the one who shot Osama bin Laden?

It also throws light on relationship, Hindu tradition and ethos. The book is in prose and simple verse but brilliant and will stimulate your mind. I truly recommend this book.’

Beyond Boundaries

This is a story of friendship and courage of two friends, one a Major in the Indian Army and the other, a Major in the Australian army who were together for a short time during a course in India. But their friendship even after years encourages one to help the other’s son, whose father was killed in action in Jammu & Kashmir. The story tells us there are no boundaries in love and friendship; it’s just the desire……

Major Mohit Whig & Major William Sowry

This is a story of friendship between two army men, Major Mohit Whig of the Indian army and a young Major William Sowry in the Australian army deputed to spend a year at India’s prestigious Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, India

In 1994 Sowry was posted to the staff college to spend a year in the Nilgiri hills with his Indian army counterparts. Major Whig was appointed as his ‘sponsor’ to help him ease into the course. After which Sowry returned to Australia and Whig was on patrol when a land mine blew up, killing him and his three accompanying soldiers. Whig left behind his wife Tina and two young children, Zorawar and Fateh.

A couple of years ago, Sowry discovered Whig’s once again. ‘We lost touch but through the magic of Facebook, I was able to find her elder son Zorawar and made contact.’ It was then he learnt about the younger son Fateh, who was barely a year old when his father was killed. Fateh was born with spina sifida, a rare congenital spinal disorder that has left him disabled since birth.

A few months ago, he heard about the Whig family exploring a rehabilitative procedure that could help Fateh regain some degree of normalcy.  But the costs were steep and they needed to raise $25,000 to travel to Australia for the medical procedure. Now twenty years later, Sowry is a 52-year-old Brigadier, posted as a defence attaché in the United Kingdom, who has set a target of 14,600 pushups in 23 days to help raise funds for Whig’s disabled son.

William Sowry built a fund raising campaign he calls PUFF – Push Ups For Fateh, to help his old friend’s younger son. In the 23 days that the Tour De France takes place, he started doing 4 pushups for every kilometer he will do 14,642 pushups in 18 days. So far Sowry has already raised $9,000.

While Sowry wrote to several senior Indian Army officials and other government functionaries, he is yet to hear from them. He even met the minister of state and former army chief, General VK Singh, who promised to help him raise funds.

This is an inspiring story of friendship going beyond boundaries, of a true desire to help a friend’s son whose father is no longer alive. And an old friendship many years ago bonded them.

‘A good memoir – should have elegant prose peppered with a little wit and humour. It should not be pompous, otherwise tends to get a bit vulgar. Should be based on real life experiences and facts. Should be economic in words and focus on the essentials for the benefit of young readers.’

The Monster Eye in the Sky!

From earlier times man was always curious to know about the stars in the sky. He tried various means from ordinary telescope to Hubble telescope to look at the sky and learn about the planets and stars very faraway from earth. And now are taking another giant step to peek at the sky…….

The construction of a gigantic telescope began in Hawai’s Mauna Kea peak, an area astronomers call one of the world’s best to search the stars. And India is part of the five country consortium that funds the project. It will be a major milestone in looking and searching the space for the unknown stars.

The Thirty Meter Telescope is a ground-based, mirror-reflecting that will offer the deepest and the sharpest views of our universe yet. TMT allows for sharper focus; as it’s large aperture collects more light and it can capture images of fainter objects.

The cost of the project is $1.47 billion (Rs 9,002 crore). It will be completed on 2025. The size of TMT’s main mirror is 30 meters – nearly one third the length of a football field. 492 mirror segments pieced together to form main mirror; will be aligned to stay at a millionth of an inch of each other. It will be 12 times sharper in resolution than the Hubble space telescope.

India along with the US, Canada, Japan and China form the TMT consortium. India’s contribution in kind – India will produce some high technology items the TMT project will use. Indian scientists will get 25-30 observing nights a year on the telescope. The success of this project will have a great impact on the knowledge of space and distant stars. The world will be able to understand space and stars better than what we know and understand them today.
